Sukhjinder Randhawa replaces Ajay Maken as Congress in-charge of Rajasthan

New Delhi [India] December 5: In a major reshuffling, Congress has accepted resignation of Ajay Maken from the post of General Secretary Incharge Rajasthan, who resigned following a disagreement with Ashok Gehlot on the issue of Chief Ministership.

As a result, former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has been appointed AICC's Rajasthan in-charge. Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has named former Union Minister Kumari Selja as the party's general secretary in charge of Chhattisgarh.


Both Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, having Congress governments, will go to the polls next year, months before the Lok Sabha election in 2024. Kharge also appointed Shaktisinh Gohil as the party in-charge of Haryana in addition to his responsibilities in Delhi. The Congress president has also appointed Gurdeep Singh Sappal as in-charge, of administration. He is attached to party treasurer Pawan Kumar Bansal.


The changes have been made a day after a meeting of the steering committee.

The new incharges of Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan are expected to draw strategies for next year's assembly elections.

Haryana will go the poll in 2024 and the Congress is sensing a chance to come back to power in the state after the results of recent panchayat polls.
