Portion of bridge collapses in Kolkata's Majerhat, Mamata orders probe Portions of Majerhat Bridge in Kolkata collapsed on Tuesday afternoon. According to the sources, seven people have been injured in the incident. Many vehicles like Bus, cars were trapped under the debris of the collapsed bridge. PWD, Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and senior police officials have reached the spot. The government has called Army to rescue the stranded people under the bridge. Injured persons have been rushed to the SSKM hospital. They are said to be in the critical condition. Fire brigade, police, and NDRF personnel also rushed to spot and are helping in the rescue and relief operations. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have asked the Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee and Minister Firhad Hakim to reach the spot CM Banerjee said, "We are very worried. We are receiving information from the rescue team on ground. We want to go back as soon as possible. There are no flights (from Darjeeling) in the evening; therefore we are unable to do so. A detailed investigation will be done.” She further said that their main priority is to rescue the trapped people and investigations will also be held later.
