Shocker of a bill for Punjab units, charged Rs 10 to 11.5 per unit

Power bills have left Punjab industrial units have been left in a shock by the power bills lately. The promised tariff was of Rs 5 per unit, however they have been charged Rs 10 to Rs 11.05. Industrialists say not only has the Capt Amarinder Singh government has broken its word on ‘single part tariff’ to small-scale units (with a load of less than 20 kW/hour). Even the maximum overall rate (MOR) promised to the industry — a ceiling on the tariff that could be charged — has not been implemented, they point out. It is for the first time that “two part tariff” has been introduced in Punjab, wherein industrial consumers are to pay a variable tariff at Rs 5 per unit and a fixed one on the load sanctioned. Mahinder Pal Gupta, who runs a steel furnace in Mandi Gobindgarh, said one of his steel rolling units remained mostly shut in January and February. Yet he had received a bill of Rs 5.21 lakh, having been charged Rs 73 per unit. -PTC News
