Bathinda blast case: Gurpreet Singh arrested after discharge from AIIMS for plotting suicide attack on Army

PTC Web Desk:  The Punjab Police on Thursday arrested Gurpreet Singh of Jeeda village in Bathinda, who was allegedly plotting a suicide attack on the Indian Army. He was taken into custody immediately after being discharged from AIIMS, where he had been undergoing treatment following a blast at his residence on September 10.

According to officials, Gurpreet Singh was critically injured while attempting to assemble a bomb at his home. The explosion resulted in severe injuries, forcing doctors to amputate his right hand. Due to his condition, the police interrogation had been delayed until his recovery.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the law student had ordered a large quantity of chemicals online to prepare explosives. He had managed to assemble nearly two kg of explosive material before the blast occurred accidentally.

Police officials said Singh’s intentions were “extremely dangerous” and, had his plan succeeded, it could have led to a major tragedy. Following his arrest, the police expect more details about the conspiracy to emerge.

The Bathinda police have already sealed his residence and completed a forensic examination of the scattered chemicals. Given the sensitivity of the material, the police have written to the Army for technical assistance in the investigation.
