Beating retreat at Attari-Wagah border to resume today in restricted manner, no customary handshake
PTC News Desk: Beating retreat ceremony at Attar-Wagah border between India and Pakistan will resume today after 12 days. The ceremony was halted following deadly Pahalgam attacks on April 22.
The audience will be allowed to witness the ceremony from May 21st.
The ceremony will resume under standard protocols without symbolic opening of border gates or customary handshake between between the Border Security Force (BSF) of India and Pakistan Rangers. However, audiences will be allowed to witness the ceremony from the Indian side, albeit under heightened security arrangements.
The ceremony has been a custon betwwen both the countries since 1959. According to the standard protocol, every evening the border gates get opened from both Attari and Wagah border along with the customary handshake.
The customary Beating Retreat came to a halt following horrific Pahalgam attack leaving 26 people dead in Jammu and Kashmir. In response to the deadly attacks, India slapped Pakistan with massive diplomatic shutdown.
