Blast at firecracker factory in Punjab's Muktsar: 5 migrant workers dead, over 25 Injured
PTC Web Desk: In a tragic industrial incident, five migrant labourers lost their lives and 29 others sustained injuries following a powerful explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Singhewala village of Muktsar district, Punjab. The blast occurred in the early hours of Thursday, shaking the area near the Punjab-Haryana border where the unit is located.
The facility, which employed a number of migrant workers, was engaged in the production and packaging of firecrackers when the incident occurred. According to initial reports, an unidentified explosion caused the building to collapse, leading to the fatalities and injuries.
Muktsar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Akhil Chaudhary stated, “Preliminary findings suggest the explosion took place in the firecracker production section. The exact cause remains unknown at this point. It appears that the deaths resulted mainly from the structural collapse rather than fire.”
Confirming the toll, Lambi Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jaspal Singh said that five deceased workers had been retrieved from the rubble. All 29 injured individuals—identified as male migrant workers—were immediately taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bathinda and nearby hospitals in Muktsar for treatment.
Emergency services and rescue teams, under the direction of the district administration, remained at the site hours after the blast, combing through the debris to locate any potential survivors and ensure the area’s safety.
The police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion.
