Dense fog, cold wave alert in Punjab and Chandigarh; temperatures to drop by 3°C in four days
PTC Web Desk: Punjab and Chandigarh witnessed a rise in daytime temperatures on Monday due to bright sunshine, offering brief relief from the cold. However, nights continue to remain chilly across the region. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a yellow alert has been issued for dense fog and cold wave conditions in several parts of Punjab from Tuesday till January 9.
The weather department has warned that temperatures may drop by up to 3 degrees Celsius over the next four days. While maximum temperatures have increased by an average of 3.1°C in the past 24 hours, bringing them closer to normal levels, minimum temperatures have fallen by 1.5°C.
Bathinda and Faridkot emerged as the coldest districts in the state, recording a minimum temperature of 4.5°C.
Fog alert in 18 districts
The IMD has issued a dense fog alert for 18 districts on Tuesday, including Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Faridkot, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala and Malerkotla.
Cold wave warning in several areas
Cold wave conditions are likely to prevail in Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala and Mansa districts during this period. The weather department has clarified that there is no likelihood of rainfall in the state during the forecast period.
After January 9, weather conditions are expected to clear gradually, bringing some respite from fog and cold wave conditions.
