Illegal mining: Raid at Chamaru village of Patiala's Ghanaur; poclain machine impounded
Patiala, November 16: Following a complaint with regard to illegal mining on online portal, a team of the Mining Department conducted a raid at Chamaru village of Ghanaur constituency, Patiala district, in the wee hours of Wednesday.
It was found that illegal mining was being done four to five feet while mining more than 3 feet is not allowed by the government. A poclain machine was also impounded from the sport. The mining department team has submitted a report to the police.
Notably, Ghanaur is infamous for illegal mining. Earlier also, the constituency had hit the headlines for illegal mining in over 10 villages, from where sand worth crores was found missing.

Earlier on November 11, the police had arrested mining contractor Rakesh Chaudhary for alleged illegal mining on the complaint of the mining department. Rakesh was arrested from near Maharaja Ranjit Singh Bagh in Ropar.
Recently, the Punjab and Haryana High Court also imposed ban on mining being done in Punjab in the name of desilting. It is alleged that the Punjab government itself was extracting minerals by mining and further selling that too without taking the approval of the Environment Department.
