Ludhiana: Ladowal toll plaza made free for commuters as farmers stage sit-in protest
PTC News Desk: The farmers union have made Ladowal toll plaza in Ludhiana free and commuters will be able to cross without paying the user charges starting today. Leaders of Bhartiya Kisan Mazdoor (BKU) have joined farmers union and staged a sit-in protest at the toll plaza over broken roads in rural areas.
Earlier toll plaza manager Vipan held a meeting with the farmers and urged them not to go ahead with the decision of making the toll plaza free, but the farmers refused.
He said, "We support the farmers, but we have nothing to do with other roads. You should talk to the DC about this."
Meanwhile the administration and police officials have been placed on alert. Several teams of police officials have been deployed near the toll plaza.
Key demands:
Troubled by the poor condition of roads, Bharatiya Kisan Mazdoor Union President Dilbag Singh Gill said that the condition of roads from village Mangali to Ladowal toll is bad, due to which people are facing problems.
Vehicles cannot be driven on Rahon Road: He said that the condition of Rahon Road is so bad that no one can drive a vehicle.
After collecting toll, they are not providing facilities: Dilbag Singh said that after the rains, so many potholes have developed on the link roads that many drivers are becoming victims of accidents every day. He further said that toll workers collect hefty tolls from drivers, but they are providing no amenities to the public.
