Ludhiana: Neelam sentenced to death for killing toddler Dilroz

Ludhiana, April 18: In a landmark judgment, a Ludhiana court on Thursday handed death sentence to Neelam, who had kidnapped and killed two-year-old daughter of her neighbour Dilroz and buried her alive. As soon as the judgment was pronounced, heart-rending scenes were witnessed on the Ludhiana court complex as Dilroz's parents were inconsolable.

Neelam (35), a resident from the Shimlapuri area in Ludhiana, was found guilty of the brutal murder of her neighbour's two-year-old daughter, Dilroz Kaur. Neelam buried the toddler alive in a pit she had dug in the Salem Tabri area on November 28, 2021.

Advocate PS Ghuman, who represented the victim’s parents, described this as the rarest of rare cases. He said a omwn who had courage to commit this brutal crime deserved death penalty only. Neelam had killed the toddler as a result of an ongoing feud with the family. She buried her alive in a pit she had dug in a field near Salem Tabri. After the incident, Neelam returned home and resumed acting as if nothing had happened.

However, when the police reviewed CCTV footage from the area, they saw Neelam taking toddler Dilroz Kaur away on her scooter. The police arrested her and questioned her, during which she admitted to her crime and said she had buried Dilroz in a pit in fields near Salem Tabri.
