Mohali: Agniveer among 3 arrested in vehicle snatching case
PTC News Desk: Mohali Police have arrested three youths, including an Agniveer, in a vehicle snatching case.
The accused have been identified as Agniveer Ishmeet Singh alias Ishu, Prabhpreet Singh alias Prabh and Balkaran Singh. Three had taken a room on rent in Mohali's Balongi.
Senior Superintendent of Police Sandeep Kumar Garg told a press conference in Mohali that the trio reportedly snatched a car from the driver at gunpoint two days ago after booking a ride via an app.
They put pepper spray on the driver's face while stealing the vehicle in Mohali district, he claimed.
Ishmeet, who is currently posted in West Bengal, came to Punjab on leave two months ago but did not return to work after his one-month vacation period ended, according to the SSP. The accused is from Punjab's Fazilka district.
An investigation was started and the accused were arrested on Wednesday, he added.
The accused were also involved in a few other cases of vehicle snatching and theft, and they used to run to Fazilka after committing the crimes, according to the police.
"Ishmeet Singh was enrolled as Agniveer in 2022. He had come on leave two months ago but did not join back his duty," the SSP added.
The accused was also found in possession of a stolen scooter, a motorbike and a countrymade pistol.
