PTC Exclusive: “Mere dil da tukda shaheed ho gya,” says grief-stricken mother of Martyr Colonel Manpreet Singh
PTC Exclusive Interview: A pall of gloom descended on Punjab after the tragic loss of Colonel Manpreet Singh, the commanding officer of 19 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) Battalion who attained martyrdom in counter-insurgency Anantnag Operation on Wednesday.
Manpreet Singh was a distinguished officer in the Indian Army who was hailed from Punjab’s Bharonjian village in Mohali district and braveheart was only four months away from completing his tenure with RR, after which he was likely to be posted at a peaceful station.

Speaking exclusively to grief-stricken mother of Martyr Colonel Manpreet Singh, she said, “Mere dil da tukda shaheed ho gya...Mera Colonel Manpreet Singh shaheed ho gya.”
Inconsolable mother of Colonel Manpreet Singh said that her son Manpreet Singh was to visit home next month for his birthday. Heart-broken mother stated that she last spoke to Manpreet on Sunday. Mother further stated she was informed about her son’s death very late as she was on a visit to a close relative and was unaware of death of his son till evening.
Speaking exclusively to PTC News, brother of Colonel Manpreet Singh said, "We last spoke to him (Col Manpreet Singh) at 6.45am and later got a call at around 3pm that he had been injured. He was a great man. Last year, he was awarded the Sena Medal. I salute him."
While speaking exclusively to media, Manpreet Singh grandfather said that Manpreet was always intelligent, simple and hardworking man who scarified his life for the country.
As per the media reports, last rites of Manpreet Singh to be performed at Mohali’s Bharonjian village on September 15 at 12 noon.
Manpreet Singh is survived by his mother, his wife Jagmeet Grewal, and two young children—a six-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter.
Manpreet Singh's wife Jagmeet is an economics teacher with the Haryana government and is posted in Panchkula district.
Notably, Manpreet Singh served around 17 years in Indian Army and courageous officer recently received a gallantry award from the army for his brave actions while serving as Lieutenant Colonel in the RR.

As a Lieutenant Colonel with the RR, he was honored with the Sena Medal for Gallantry in 2021 for his courageous actions in Jammu and Kashmir, where he had engaged and neutralised terrorists who had initiated indiscriminate firing. It is worth noting that the 19 RR battalion had previously eliminated the notorious terrorist Burhan Wani in 2016.
