Punjab and Haryana HC issues notice to Punjab over Amritpal Singh's plea to attend Budget Session
PTC News Desk: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice to Punjab government over Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh's plea seeking parole to attend Parliament's Budget Session. The court has also sought response from the government in 10 days.
Khadoor Sahib MP approached the court after being denied temporary parole to attend the Budget Session.
During the hearing, the High Court asked Amritpal’s lawyer on what grounds parole was rejected. The lawyer told the court that the government cited a threat to Punjab’s security but did not provide any clear or detailed reasons. The lawyer also argued that another MP facing serious charges under the NSA had been allowed to attend parliamentary proceedings, and therefore Amritpal Singh should also be permitted to participate in the Budget Session.
Meanwhile, counsel appearing on behalf of the Lok Sabha Speaker, Additional Solicitor-General of India Satya Pal Jain told the Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Sheel Nagu that there was no provision in the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha permitting a member to appear or participate through virtual mode.
