Punjab government suspends all contractual workers of PRTC, PUNBUS over protest against kilometre scheme
PTC News Desk: The Punjab government has taken strict action against the ongoing strike protesting the cancellation of tenders for buses operating under the kilometre scheme. All employees participating in the strike have been suspended. The department has sent emails to all temporary workers informing them of the action.
The email states that the employees caused financial loss to the government by taking part in an illegal protest. A penalty has been imposed for not running buses on their routes, and all involved employees have been suspended from service with immediate effect.
In the letter sent regarding the suspension of employees, it is written that you have caused inconvenience to people who travel in government buses in Punjab. Due to your strike, people faced difficulties in commuting. Therefore, action is being taken against you.
Protest declared illegal:
The protest held by the temporary Roadways employees is illegal. You are informed that on November 28, 2025, hundreds of buses from various depots did not operate because of the illegal protest. As a result, the government suffered a financial loss of ₹9,520 per bus in a single day in terms of bus stand fees, ticket revenue, overtime, wages, etc. In total, the department suffered a financial loss of ₹11,939 per bus over two days.
