Punjab revises school, office timings amid heatwave; check details
Punjab school timings: Amid the ongoing heatwave conditions, the Punjab Government has revised the timings for government schools and offices. The new schedule will come into effect from May 25, under which schools and government offices will function from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the decision was taken in view of the intense heat across the state.
Meanwhile, weather conditions changed suddenly on Friday morning, bringing relief in several parts of Punjab. Rainfall was reported from Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Pathankot, leading to a drop in temperature. Strong winds also accompanied the rain in Jalandhar and Pathankot.
However, severe heatwave conditions continue to prevail in Chandigarh. According to weather data, Punjab recorded a marginal decline of 0.9 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures on Thursday. Bathinda remained the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 44.6 degrees Celsius.
According to the Chandigarh Meteorological Centre, cloudy conditions are likely to develop over Chandigarh and Mohali during the next two to three hours. Rain accompanied by strong winds blowing at speeds of up to 40 kmph is also expected. The change in weather may bring down the maximum temperature, which is likely to hover around 40 degrees Celsius.
