Amid cold wave, Punjab schools change timings for primary schools, other classes
PTC Web Desk: In view of the prevailing cold wave conditions across Punjab, the Directorate of School Education (Secondary), Punjab, has issued fresh instructions revising school timings for government schools in the state.
According to the official order issued from Chandigarh, the revised timings will be applicable from January 16 to January 21, 2026, to ensure the safety and well-being of students during extreme winter conditions.
As per the notification, primary schools across Punjab will now operate from 10 am to 3 pm, while middle, high and senior secondary schools will function from 10 am to 3.20 pm during the specified period.
The order has been sent to all authorities concerned, including district education officers, school heads, and administrative officials for strict compliance.
The education department has clarified that these temporary changes aim to protect students from harsh morning temperatures and have directed all schools to follow the revised schedule without exception.
