Punjab soldier killed in encounter with militants in Manipur, to be cremated with full state honours
PTC News Desk: A soldier from Punjab's Sangrur district was martyred in action during encounter with militants in hostile state Manipur.
Gurpreet Singh, who had been serving in the Army for 21 years was shot during the operation. He was a resident of Mahalna Chowk village in Sunam tehsil of Sangrur.
Gurpreet Singh is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter.
His mortal remains will reach his native village today, and his last rites will be performed with full state honours the same day.
The news of Gurpreet's passing plunged the entire village in a state of mourning, leaving his family uncontrollably grieving.
The Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police have been carrying out a special operation against militants since February 15. During this operation, Gurpreet Singh was shot in an encounter with militants and was martyred.
