Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests patwari for taking bribe of Rs 24,000

Chandigarh, March 27: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB),  has arrested revenue patwari Prem Kumar for seeking a bribe of Rs 24,000. The accused is posted at revenue halqua, Nawanshahr, SBS district. 

A spokesperson for the Punjab Vigilance Bureau said a case had been registered against revenue patwari Prem Kumar after investigation of an online complaint lodged at the Chief Minister's anti-corruption helpline.


The complainant, Amarjit Singh, a resident of Karnana, tehsil Banga, had alleged that the patwari had taken Rs 24,000 as a bribe in instalments in lieu of mutation of land belonging to his father and uncle.

The complainant had also recorded the conversation on his cellphone while the accused patwari was demanding this bribe.

The spokesperson added that the Vigilance Bureau unit of Jalandhar range investigated the allegations against the patwari and registered a corruption case at the Vigilance Bureau police station, Jalandhar. 

Further investigation was under progress, he added.
