Row over Singapore training trip: Punjab CM replies to Guv, says his govt is answerable to only Punjabis

Mohali, February 14: After Punjab Governor Banwarial Purohit raised a question over the selection of school principals for a Singapore training trip through a letter, the ongoing tussle between him and CM Bhagwant Mann increased on Tuesday.

In reply to the Punjab Governor's letter, Bhagwant Mann stated that "his government is answerable to only Punjabis as per rules".  In the letter, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann raised questions over the qualification and appointment of the Governor.

"I want to clarify that I am accountable to 3 crore Punjabis. You have asked me on what basis have teachers been selected for training in Singapore? The people of Punjab want to ask on what basis the Governors are elected in different states by the Central Government without any clear qualification in Constitution," said Bhagwant Mann.

The row erupted after Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit sent a letter to the Punjab CM seeking details on the selection of government school principals, who have been sent to Singapore for a training seminar. The Governor said "he has received complaints of "illegalities”.

However, this did not go down well with Bhagwant Mann, who too shot off a letter to the Punjab Governor on Monday.

He said "Punjabis also want to know the criteria of selection of Governors for various states." In his satirical comment, he said this would help enhance "knowledge of 3 crore Punjabis".

The CM said "the decisions of Punjab will be taken by people who are elected by the people, not selected".
