SGPC raises objection over 'Siropa' honour to Rahul Gandhi at Gurdwara Baba Budha Sahib in Amritsar
PTC News Desk: Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee has raised objections over 'Siropa' honour to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his visit to historic gurdwara Baba Budha Sahib in Ramdas area in Amritsar.
SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami said that it is completely prohibited to to honour any political personality inside any of the Sikh shrines. He further said that strict action will be taken if any of the SGPC employees are found guilty.
Dhami said that the interim committee has already decided to only honour the religious figures, Ragi Singhs and pivotal Sikh figures with the siropa (robe oh honour) inside the Gurdwara premises.
SGPC Chief further said that it is absolutely unacceptable to honour Rahul Gandhi, leader and member of Gandhi family who has been accused to orchestrating Sikh genocide in 1984.
He described the development as violation of Sikh code of conduct.
Earlier on Monday, Congress leader arrived in Punjab and visited flood-affected areas. Later in the day, he paid obseince at at the historic gurdwara Baba Budha Sahib in Ramdas area of Amritsar.
He performed 'ardas' (prayer) for the welfare and prosperity of people, including those who were impacted by floods.
