Why Punjabi singer Rajvir Jawanda couldn’t be saved despite 11 days of treatment

PTC Web Desk: After the funeral of popular Punjabi singer Rajvir Jawanda, several earlier unknown details about his medical treatment have come to light. Jawanda, who had been admitted to Fortis Hospital, Mohali, fought for his life for 11 days but could not recover as his brain had completely stopped responding from the time he was brought to the hospital until his death.

Singer Resham Anmol, who remained by Jawanda’s side throughout his treatment, confirmed these developments. Jawanda breathed his last at 10.55 am on Wednesday, October 8, at Fortis Hospital. He was cremated on October 9 at his native village in Ludhiana district.

Anmol revealed that Jawanda’s daughter would visit her father daily at the hospital, pleading, “Papa, please don’t leave us, don’t betray us.” But despite the family’s prayers and emotional strength, Jawanda could not be saved.

The singer’s family collected his ashes this morning to be immersed at Kiratpur Sahib. The Antim Ardas is scheduled for October 17 at Pauna village.

Resham Anmol recounted the timeline of Jawanda’s treatment:. He said when Jawanda was first admitted, doctors warned that the initial 12 hours were extremely critical. Family, friends, and fans prayed continuously for his recovery.

On the second day, doctors reduced the oxygen and ventilator support to 30%. His body began breathing on its own, and for a brief period, it appeared that he was recovering. Later, recovery dropped to zero. Unfortunately, his recovery came to a halt soon after. Although his beard kept growing and his kidneys were functioning, indicating partial body activity , his brain showed no signs of improvement.

According to Anmol, doctors were unable to perform surgery on Jawanda’s spine (L1–L6 region) because his brain activity was absent. His ribs were also damaged. The medical team explained that unless the brain showed minimal response, no surgical procedure could proceed.

“The brain acts like a remote control for the body. It receives signals from the nerves about pain, temperature, and reflexes. Once the brain stopped functioning, nothing else could be done,” Anmol said.

Doctors told the family that even with advanced technology capable of replacing spinal components artificially, a functioning brain was essential for survival, but Jawanda’s brain had completely shut down.

In an effort to save the singer, Resham Anmol and Ammy Virk consulted medical experts from PGI Chandigarh, Medanta Hospital (Gurugram), and even specialists in the US and UK. However, every doctor reviewing Jawanda’s medical reports reportedly said that his condition was extremely critical and irreversible.

Locals from Jawanda’s native village recalled his humble beginnings in music. According to Parminderpal Singh, Jawanda was first noticed during a Mata Bhawani jagran organised by the local youth club in 2010–11.

The main performer scheduled for the event fled after consuming alcohol, leaving the stage vacant. The organisers rushed to Jawanda’s home and persuaded him to perform. Unsure but determined, Rajvir sang the emotional song “Maa Hundi Ae Maa” written by Kuldeep Manak. His soulful performance moved everyone, and the audience connected the song’s words with the divine. That night became the turning point of Jawanda’s musical career, his first big stage performance, after which he never looked back.

In a deeply emotional moment, Anmol shared that Jawanda’s daughter once left a note at the hospital that read, “Papa, you’re cheating us.” Every time she visited, she repeated, “Papa, please don’t betray us.” Her innocent words brought tears to the eyes of doctors, nurses, and everyone around.

On October 8, Rajvir Jawanda’s battle came to an end. Despite efforts from doctors in India and abroad, his brain’s failure led to multiple organ failure. His funeral was held with full respect, attended by friends, family, and several figures from the Punjabi music industry.
