Punjab Assembly elections 2022: SAD releases list of 64 candidates

In the run-up to the Punjab Assembly elections 2022, the Shiromani Akali Dal, led by Sukhbir Singh Badal, on Monday released the list of 64 candidates. Jagdeep Singh Cheema will be contesting from Fatehgarh Sahib while Gurpreet Singh Raju Khanna has been named SAD candidate from Amloh. Sukhbir Singh Badal seeks Presidential intervention for immediate winter session of the Parliament Also read | SAD plans Parliament march on September 17 against farm laws Among other prominent SAD leaders, who will be contesting the elections, include Dr Daljeet Singh Cheema (Rupnagar); Adaish Partap Singh Kairon (Patti, Tarn Taran); Anil Joshi (Amritsar North), Sukhbir Singh Badal (Jalalabad); Jagmeet Singh Brar (Maur, Bathinda); NK Sharma (Dera Bassi) and Gurbachan Singh Babehali (Gurdaspur). The Punjab Assembly elections 2022 will be held in February or March 2022, to elect 117 members for the 16th Assembly of the Punjab Legislative Assembly. The term of the current assembly elected in 2017 will expire on March 27, 2022. The Shiromani Akali Dal broke its alliance with the BJP after more than two decades over the three controversial farm bills passed by Parliament in 2020. Earlier, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal had announced Jeet Mohinder Singh from Talwandi Sabo, Suba Singh from Jaitu, Mantar S Brar from Kotkapura, Kanwarjit S Rosy Barkandi from Mukatsar and Parambans S Romana from Faridkot as party candidates for the Vidhan Sabha. Punjab has 117 Assembly seats. Meanwhile, Sukhbir Singh Badal has announced that senior party leader Harbhajan Singh Dung will be the new president of Ludhiana Urban. This has been done on the request of Ludhiana Urban president Ranjit Singh Dhillon, who has been announced as the party candidate from Ludhiana East. -PTC News
