Punjab CM urges Amit Shah to issue notification for purchase of Basmati on MSP
New Delhi/ Chandigarh, May 19: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah and impressed upon him to issue a notification for the purchase of Basmati on MSP.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann informed Home Minister Amit Shah that it was the need of hour to bring the farmers out of rut of wheat-paddy cycle. He said it would help in saving the precious resource in form of water in the state. It would also give a boost to crop diversification in the state.

The Punjab Chief Minister also sought a compensation of Rs 500 per quintal for low yield of wheat grain in the state. He said due to intense heat during this summer season, wheat grains in Punjab had been damaged. "It is the high time that farmers must be compensated for this damage by giving a compensation worth Rs 500 per quintal for low yield to them," said Bhagwant Mann.
He said hard working and resilient farmers of the state had made enormous contribution in making the country self-reliant in food production and now the Centre must bail them out in this hour of crisis.
