Punjab provincial government in Pakistan to lift ban on Basant The Punjab provincial government in Pakistan has decided to lift the ban on Basant celebrations on Tuesday. They have decided to celebrate Basant as the kite-flying festival in Lahore in the second week of February. He further told the media sources that Basant is a cultural festival. therefore, it would be totally inappropriate to link this festival with any other religion. He said, “This historical cultural festival of Lahore will be revived, and Inshallah we will celebrate Basant in the second week of February." He further said that Basant was a big economic activity back in 2005, before its ban. It could have promoted tourism. The celebratory aerial gunfire also led to many deaths during the festival. Following which the Supreme Court of Pakistan banned kite flying. This destroyed the kite and string making industries economically. The commercial activity like hotel occupancy and food industry also suffered a loss of billions because of this ban. -PTC NEWS
