Punjab to re-verify cards issued under Atta Daal scheme; govt issues notification
Chandigarh, September 6: The Food Supply Department is making strides to weed out the bogus and fake beneficiaries of the atta-dal scheme.
Notably, the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab plans to start delivering flour door-to-door on October 1. However, in order to keep ineligible people out of the scheme, the government will have the atta-dal cards issued under Congress' tenure verified.
The Punjab government has also issued a notification regarding the re-verification of the cards.
The secretary of the state's food supply and consumer affairs department sent a letter to the deputy commissioners on Tuesday, along with verification instructions.
According to the issued letter, the card of each person created under the Smart Ration Card Scheme will be scrutinised. The government, however, will not scrutinize the cards of children whose parents or head of the family died during Covid.
Furthermore, scheme cards found invalid would be cut off immediately.
