The High Court, in its orders, said the government should review the security of 400-plus VVIPs in a fresh way. While reviewing, the input of the state and central agency must also be incorporated, stated the HC.
Further, the High Court also ordered status quo on security position till the review is completed.
Those who were not given protection, they should be given one security personnel.
Rapping the Punjab Government for publicising the security withdrawal documents, the High Court said, “Papers of withdrawal of security were made public several times due to various reasons that added to security lapse of those who were given the protection. The government should take care of this in the future.”
The security cover of 434 protectees was curtailed on May 26, which was restored on June 7. The government had earlier clarified that it was withdrawn in view of “Ghallughara” (Operation Blue Star anniversary, which falls on June 6) and was a routine exercise, undertaken every year.
