Punjab CM waives of 50 percent state share in Sri Darbar Sahib Langar GST
Punjab would forego its share of GST on langar at Golden Temple: Capt Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Finance Minister Manpreet Badal announced in the Vidhan Sabha that the state would forego its share of GST on langar at the Golden Temple, here on Wednesday morning.
They also recommended withdrawal of GST on Durgiana Mandir in Amritsar
'Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder announced waiver of State's 50 percent share in Darbar Sahib Langar GST even as Vidhan Sabha passes unanimous resolution urging Centre and GST Council to completely waiver off GST on Langar, which was a service started by the Sikh Gurus,' said the tweet.
The popular community kitchen -- better known as the "langar" at Golden Temple, Amritsar is feeling the pinch of the GST regime that came into force seven months ago. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is putting an extra burden on its finances in running the free food service.
At the Golden Temple complex, which is home to the holiest of Sikh shrines, the Harmandir Sahib has nearly paid Rs 2 crore (about $310,000) as GST.
