Ludhiana encounter: Two shooters of Doni Bal gang shot dead in police encounter
PTC News Desk: Two gangsters were reportedly shot dead in an encounter with police in Ludhiana. A team of the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) was chasing the suspects when they suddenly opened fire at the police team in the Atam Nagar area.
Both suspects are believed to be associated with the Donny Ball gang.
The sound of gunfire was reported to the police control room, following which the Police Commissioner and senior officers reached the spot. Police are investigating the weapons allegedly carried by the suspects.
According to the information available so far, around 25 rounds were fired during the encounter. Both suspects were shot dead in the retaliatory firing by police.
The Ludhiana Police Commissioner said the encounter took place during a “hot chase.” He said police surrounded the suspects while pursuing them, after which the gangsters allegedly fired several rounds at the police vehicle.
Police retaliated, killing both suspects in the exchange of fire.
The Police Commissioner said police recovered three automatic pistols and around 50 rounds of ammunition from the spot.
The Police Commissioner said the incident was linked to an inter-gang rivalry connected with the 2016 murder of Ravi Khwajke and gangster Davinder Bambiha, who was killed in a police encounter in Bathinda in 2016.
According to police, both suspects were in contact with Donny Ball, a gangster based abroad. He was allegedly directing them and providing targets and weapons.
The Police Commissioner said a camp was organised in Ludhiana’s Atam Nagar area on Sunday in memory of Ravi Khwajke. Police had received information that some shooters associated with the gang were planning to attend the camp and allegedly target certain people there.
Police said both gangsters killed in the encounter were residents of Amritsar.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
