On SYL and fighting on waters and rivers, Sadhguru said, Punjab and Haryana will have to come forward as a force to save the rivers from dying, we ll have to stop getting into quarrels over water and rivers and rather focus on a mission to save them first.

“Chandigarh is considered as the green cover all over the nation, If Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh dries, Chandigarh will be just another city with pollution, dried lakes and rivers and yet another cause to the depletion of the most essential resource- water. And I consider it my duty to save Sukhna Lake” says Punjab governor V P Badnore

This is once in a lifetime, not in our lives but in the life of a nation. I want you to look at this possibility – 1.3 billion people and no water! What will happen to human beings when there is no water to drink?  – Sadhguru

It is a disaster on planet, something so fundamental as water, if rivers stop flowing large tracks of India will turn into graveyards. If we don’t do the right things, in the next 10 years 15 years it could be too late.

For thousands of years, these rivers have embraced us and nourished us. A time has come when we have to embrace and nourish them- Sadhguru

Why Rally For Rivers-

The estimate say 65% of our water needs are met by rivers.  2 out of 3 major Indian cities already deal with daily water shortage and will have to pay ten times the normal amount for a can of water. We consume water not just to drink or for domestic purposes but 80% of water is used to grow food. Each person’s average water requirement is 1.1 million liters a year. Flood, drought and rivers turning seasonal are increasingly leading to crop failure across the country.

The simplest solution to rejuvenate India’s rivers is to maintain a minimum of one kilometer tree cover on riversides. Forest trees can be planted on government land and tree-based agriculture brought in on farm land. This will ensure our rivers are fed throughout the year by the moist soil. This will also reduce floods, drought and soil loss, and increase farmers’ incomes.
