Ranjit Singh murder case: Gurmeet Ram Rahim moves HC against life term, petition approved for hearing

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday admitted the appeal filed by Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in the 2002 Ranjit Singh Murder case. It also stayed the fine imposed him by the CBI Court. Gurmeet Ram Rahim had challenged the order of the CBI Court, Panchkula, wherein he was convicted and awarded life imprisonment Gurmeet Ram Rahim had been fined Rs 31 lakh, half of which was to go to Ranjit Singh’s son. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the fine and admitted the plea. They were found guilty under Section 302 (murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and Section 27 of the Arms Act (punishment for using arms).
