Rape case: Punjab Police put PO poster outside house of ex-MLA Simarjit Bains
Mohali, May 3: The Punjab Police on Tuesday declared former MLA Simarjit Singh Bains a proclaimed offender. He is facing rape charges. The police have put up posters at various places, including outside his house.
Earlier, the Ludhiana police had registered an FIR against former Lok Insaf Party (LIP) MLA Simarjit Singh Bains and other accused after they failed to appear before the court for hearings in the case related to the alleged rape of a 44-year-old woman.

On April 12, the trial court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Harsimranjit Kaur had declared Simarjit Singh Bains and other accused in the case as “proclaimed offenders” and directed the Ludhiana police to register another FIR against them under Section 174-A (non-appearance in response to a proclamation).
The court had also ordered that the properties of Bains, a list of which was submitted before it, be attached. Following this, Bains and other accused – his brothers Karamjit Bains, Paramjit Bains, as well as Sukhchain Singh, Pardeep Kumar, Baljinder Kaur and Jasvir Kaur – have been booked in an FIR registered at Division No. 6 police station.
The case
Simarjit Singh Bains, founder and president of the Lok Insaaf Party and a two-time MLA from Atam Nagar, was booked in an alleged rape case filed last year. A woman alleged that the former MLA raped her multiple times in 2020 after she approached him for help in a property dispute case.
