New Delhi, September 21: The Government on Wednesday appointed Tata Sons chairman emeritus Ratan Tata and former Supreme Court Judge KT Thomas and former Deputy Speaker Kariya Munda as trustees of the PM CARES Fund. “Prime Minister welcomed the trustees for becoming an integral part of the PM CARES Fund,” a statement by the Prime Minister’s Office read. The government also decided to appoint three eminent personalities to the advisory board of the PM CARES Fund. Former CAG Rajiv Mehrishi, former Infosys Foundation chairperson Sudha Murthy, and Anand Shah, former CEO of Indicorps and Piramal Foundation, are among those nominated for the board. “Prime Minister said that participation of new trustees and advisors will provide wider perspectives to the functioning of the PM CARES Fund,” it added. The decision was made a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a meeting of the PM CARES Fund's Board of Trustees. Also Read | Covid-19: India logs 4,510 new cases in last 24 hours During the meeting, a presentation was given on the different projects carried out with the assistance of the PM CARES Fund, including the PM CARES for Children scheme, which supports 4345 children. “It was discussed that PM CARES has a larger vision on effectively responding to emergency and distress situations, not only through relief assistance but also taking mitigation measures and capacity building,” the statement further said. The PM CARES Fund was established as part of emergency aid measures during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
