Rohit Sharma and Mohammad Shami have been rested for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka, Indian Cricket Team’s Chief Selector MSK Prasad said on Monday. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah and Shikhar Dhawan have been called in for the T20I series.
MSK Prasad was quoted by news agency ANI as saying, “For T20 series vs Sri Lanka, Jasprit Bumrah and Shikhar Dhawan have been brought back; Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami rested.”
Also, MSK Prasad stated that “Indian cricket need not worry for the next 6-7 years, as we have substantial bench strength across all forms.” Sri Lanka will play a three-match T20 series against India. The series came in the wake of Zimbabwe’s suspension by the ICC.
India will take on Sri Lanka in the first T20 match of the upcoming series, which is scheduled to be played on January 5, 2020 in Guwahati. The second T20 is to be played on January 7 in Indore and the final at Pune on January 10, 2019.
Recently, India defeated West Indies in a three-match T20I and ODI series. Virat Kohli remained the highest run scorer in the international cricket. The 2020 T20 World Cup is not so far and hence the teams are gearing up to be ready for the mega tournament.
