SAD rejects politicized SIT, demands probe be handed over to independent agency supervised by SC judge

SAD rejects politicized SIT, demands probe be handed over to independent agency supervised by SC judge The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today rejected the pre-determined, biased and vendetta fuelled investigation being carried out by the SIT formed by the Congress government to settle political scores with the SAD and announced it would not cooperate with it henceforth. Condemning the manner in which the SIT was being misused to frame the top Akali leadership without even a semblance of an investigation, senior SAD leaders Balwinder Singh Bhundar, Maheshinder Singh Grewal and Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said the SIT was following the footsteps of the Ranjit Singh Commission and implementing the mandate of the Congress party to implicate the SAD. “This politicization of the SIT is not acceptable and henceforth the SAD and its leadership will not cooperate with the investigation”, the SAD leaders said. They said a SAD-BJP delegation would meet Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore soon and apprise him of the conspiracy to implicate elected members in false cases and urge for a fair investigation into the Kotkapura and Behbal kalan cases. Mr Bhundar, Mr Grewal and Dr Cheema also condemned the manner in which former Kotkapura legislator Mantar Singh Brar was being implicated in the Kotkapura incident. They said it was a fact that the former mla did not have any role to play in any administrative or police action as a legislator except his concern for the general safety of his constituents. “An elected member cannot be made an accused for expressing anxiety at the atmosphere in his constituency. “It seems his name has been dragged into the case as part of a larger conspiracy to target the top SAD leadership despite the fact that the mla did everything possible to help the administration in maintaining public order”. Stating that the SAD did not have anything to hide, the leaders said they were all for an impartial probe into the unfortunate incidents of Kotkapura and Behbal kalan. “We are interested in the speedy delivery of justice. The Congress government has through its brazen politicization of the probe proved that it cannot deliver justice. We demand that the probe into both cases be handed over to any central agency under the direct supervision of a sitting judge of the Supreme Court” Also Read: YAD calls for emergency assembly session to demand death penalty for 1984 genocide perpetrators [caption id="attachment_266267" align="aligncenter" width="750"]SC judge SAD rejects politicized SIT, demands probe be handed over to independent agency supervised by SC judge[/caption] The Akali leaders also contended that the Congress party was desperate to implicate Akali leaders in one way or the other as it had failed to deliver anything to the people and knew that its days were numbered. “The Congress is also trying to weaken Sikh institutions, including the Akali Dal, so that it can rule in a vacuum. The party is however not taking into consideration that the Sikh quam can never forgive it for rolling tanks into Sri Harmandir Sahib, destroying Sri Akal Takht, putting hundreds of saroops of Shri Guru Granth Sahib to flame and killing thousands of innocents in 1984. Punjabis will never allow the Congress party’s divisive politics of divide and rule to succeed”, the leaders added. EOM - PTC NEWS
