SC refuses Centre's request to allow women to take NDA exam from next year

The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected the Centre's request wherein it had asked that women candidates should be allowed to take the National Defence Academy (NDA) exam from next year. The top court said it doesn’t want women to be denied their rights. The induction of women in NDA could not be posted by one year, it said. The Centre had informed the court that a notification allowing women candidates to appear for the National Defence Academy exam would be out by May next year. After noting the submissions made by senior advocate Chinmoy Pradip Sharma, appearing on behalf of the petitioner Kush Kalra, the SC said that it could not postpone the induction of women by one year. Notification allowing women in NDA to be released by May next year On the other hand, the Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati had submitted that a study group had been constituted to facilitate the entry of women while the necessary mechanism could be put in place by May 2022. The ASG sought postponement of the next NDA entrance exam which is scheduled to be held on November 14. -PTC News
