SGPC celebrates its centenary, top Sikh leaders attend celebrations

SGPC organised Akhand Path at Sri Akal Takht Sahib: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which manages Sikh historic shrines (gurdwaras) besides running a number of educational institutions, hospitals, and public services, celebrated its centenary on Tuesday. The celebrations were, however, a low-key affair because of the coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, the President of the SGPC, Bhai Gobind Singh Longowal, not only traced the history of the SGPC but also talked about various morchas and missions carried out by the SGPC in the service of humanity during its 100-year existence. Several prominent personalities present during the celebrations included the Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal, besides leaders and heads of various Sikh organisations. Apart from them, raghi and dhadi Jathas enthralled the audience with the recitation of Gurbani. The SGPC was constituted on November 15, 1920. It was notified as the Sikh Gurdwara Act in 1925 by the then British government. -PTC News
