Kapil Dev posts message in support of Rohit Sharma after World Cup 2023 debacle; check here
New Delhi, November 20: Kapil Dev, the captain of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, has lauded Rohit Sharma, urging him to maintain high spirits as India supports him. In the World Cup 2023 final at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, Rohit's aggressive innings of 47 runs off 31 balls set a strong pace for India. However, his dismissal after a spectacular catch by Travis Head disrupted India's flow, leading to a struggle for boundaries by the remaining batsmen.
Taking to Instagram, Kapil Dev praised Rohit's skills and encouraged him to look ahead to a promising future. He wrote, "Rohit, your mastery in cricket is evident. There's a lot of success awaiting you despite the challenges. Stay positive; India stands by you."
Reflecting on the match afterward, Rohit Sharma admitted to India's failure to perform at their best. "The outcome wasn't in our favour. We didn't display our best cricket today. We tried our best, but the conditions favoured batting under lights. However, I don't want to use that as an excuse," Rohit stated.
In the match, India scored 240 runs in 50 overs, with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul contributing significantly. Mitchell Starc (3/55) stood out among the Australian bowlers, with Pat Cummins (2/34) and Josh Hazlewood (2/60) also performing well.
Chasing 241, India had Australia struggling at 47/3 initially, but Travis Head's brilliant 137 off 120 balls and Marnus Labuschagne's 58 off 110 balls steered Australia to a six-wicket victory. The two finalists will now engage in a five-match T20I series starting in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.
