Paris Olympics 2024: Manu Bhaker to be India's flagbearer in closing ceremony
Paris Olympics 2024: Manu Bhaker, India's two-time Olympic bronze winner, will be India's flagbearer at the Paris Olympics' closing ceremony.
According to Indian Olympic Association (IOA) sources, Bhaker will carry India's women's flag at the closing ceremony. India's men's flagbearer for the ceremony has yet to be confirmed. The closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics will be held on August 11.
Bhaker took her A-game to Paris and broke multiple records to win two bronze medals at the Summer Games.
Bhaker opened India's medal tally at the ongoing Olympics by finishing third in the women's individual 10m Air pistol event. Following that, Sarabjot Singh and Bhaker won bronze in the 10m air pistol (mixed team) event.
She had a chance of returning with three medals from Paris. However, in her final event, she nearly missed out on the historic grand treble, finishing fourth in the women's 25m pistol shooting event. She missed the chance to become the first Indian to win three Olympic medals.
Bhaker is the first Indian athlete since independence to win two medals in the Paris Olympics.
Norman Pritchard had won two medals for India at the 1900 Olympics, both silver in the 200m and 200m hurdles.
Bhaker also joined an elite club of athletes who have won many individual Olympic medals, like PV Sindhu (badminton silver in Rio 2016 and bronze in Tokyo 2020) and Sushil Kumar (wrestling bronze in 2008 Beijing and silver in 2012 London).
