A first: Punjab and Haryana High Court asks ChatGPT for its view on bail plea in assault case
PTC Web Desk: In a first, the Punjab and Haryana High Court took the help of ChatGPT to seek the view of the artificial intelligence (AI) platform on a bail in an assault case.
As per reports, the Judge asked ChatGPT for a worldview on bail when assault was laced with cruelty. And read what the AI responded,"In such cases, the judge may be less inclined to grant bail or may set...bail amount very high to ensure ... defendant appears in court."
The state was opposing bail on the ground that the accused had criminal history, and there were possibilities that he could flee. The Punjab and Haryana High Court also examined the bail plea and documents pertaining to the case. It said prima facie, the accused seems to be involved in the assault and has failed to make sufficient arguments for bail.
It was then that the High Court questioned ChatGPT on worldview on bail. The AI platform responded that, "In such cases, the judge may be less inclined to grant bail or may set the bail amount very high to ensure that the defendant appears in court and does not pose a risk to public safety. The severity of the assault, the defendant's criminal history, and the strength of the evidence against them are all factors that a judge will consider when deciding whether to grant bail."
