Action against gun culture: Jalandhar administration revokes 538 arms licences

Jalandhar, March 17: Punjab government continues the drive against gun culture Jalandhar Administration revokes 538 arms licenses. The Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh on late Friday evening cancelled as many as 538 arms licences in the district.

According to information, the Deputy Commissioner said, orders were issued by the state government recently. The administration conducted a review of the weapon licences issued to individuals, following to which these licenses have been revoked with immediate effect.

The Deputy Commissioner, Jaspreet Singh said, no one is allowed to take law and order into their hands. Strict action will be taken by the district administration if anyone found misusing their licensed weapons. 

As per to the reports out of these 538 licences, 362 were suspended during renewal procedure on account of negative police reports, while the remaining 176 cancelled for various reasons. At around 101 firearms licences were cancelled immediately due to death of license holders. He further added by saying that, there are around 25 cases where the holders had left the country and settled abroad, adding in 50 cases, police reports were found negative during re-verification procedure.

The Deputy Commissioner also warned that the state government had already banned the public display of weapons. As per to the reports, the District Administration had earlier suspended around 391 licences in last year November, and had issued show-causes notices to licence holders.

DC also said that rules needs to be followed for keeping a gun, if any kind of norms or violation seen strict action will be taken immediately. He further emphasised, that there is a statewide ban on displaying the weapons at any functions or religious place, marriage ceremonies. There will be a random checking conducted in different areas in the coming days. 

Punjab Minister Aman Arora recently said that the government had cancelled more than 2,000 arms licence. “Rules have to be followed. Now there is a ban on carrying and displaying of weapons in public,” he had said.
