Amritsar blasts: Know how the five accused executed the plan and procured explosives

PTC Web Desk: Three low-intensity blasts in the holy city of Amritsar have created an atmosphere of panic in the area. Although the Punjab Police have claimed to have solved the case with the arrest of five persons, it raises questions over the law and order situation in the state.

The timeline of blasts
The first blast was reported near Saragari Sarai on Heritage street near the Golden Temple on May 6 evening. The second explosion was reported the morning of May 8. The third low-intensity explosion was reported around 12.12 am on the intervening night of Wednesday.

How many arrests made so far?

Azad Veer Singh of Wadala Kalan village in Baba Bakala, Amrik Singh of Dubri village in Gurdaspur, Dharminder Singh and Harjeet Singh of 88 feet road and Sahib Singh, a resident of Gate Hakima area have been arrested so far.

How they executed the plan?
As per available information, the explosives were assembled by Azad Veer and Amrik Singh. Dharminder Singh, Harjeet Singh and Sahib have been accused of providing explosives.

DGP Gaurav Yadav, while addressing mediapersons, said Sahib Singh was licensed holder of explosives used for making firecrackers. A woman's role is also being looked into.

Recoveries from the accused
At least 1.1kg of explosive material, besides some radical literature have been recovered from the possession of the accused.

Azadvir and Amrik Singh had been staying at Guru Ram Dass Sarai in the Golden Temple complex for the past few days. The explosives were reportedly assembled by them for creating crude bombs.

The DGP said Azad Veer Singh threw the bomb on the 'Gallliara' side behind the Sarai at around 12.12am.

The modus operandi
The accused assembled 200 gm of explosives in a container and then suspended the same in a polythene bag from a thread from the rooftop of Saragarhi parking on May 6 evening. It exploded at 11.30pm.

Azad Veer placed another bomb at the rooftop on May 8 around 4am. The same was connected with a thread. It was pulled by a passerby that lead to the blast.

Accused have criminal background

The Chheharta police had earlier booked Azad Veer for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.  Dharminder is facing charges under the NDPS Act while Sahib Singh was booked under the explosives act. Amirk Singh is also facing a criminal charge.
