Chandigarh, April 13: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Prem Singh Chandumajra has called for a high-level inquiry into the tragic incident at the Bathinda Military Station in Punjab, which claimed the lives of four jawans.

During a press conference in Chandigarh, Chandumajra stressed the need for a thorough investigation into the matter. "It is a very sad incident. There should be a high-level inquiry into the incident," Prem Singh Chandumajra said.

In response, the Punjab Police have registered an FIR against two unknown persons in connection with the shooting. Major Ashutosh Shukla's statement was the basis for the FIR, which identified the four slain jawans as Sagar, Kamlesh, Santosh, and Yogesh. It is believed that two masked men, dressed in white kurta pyjamas, attacked the jawans with rifles and sharp-edged weapons while they were asleep after their shift. The police have seized one of the weapons used in the crime.

SSP Gulneet Khurana has stated that the police are in contact with the Army and a forensic report will be released to determine if the weapon is the same one that was stolen from the camp. Additionally, ADGP Surinder Pal Singh Parmar has ruled out the possibility of a terror angle in the incident. He further noted that the Army will also be conducting a separate investigation into the matter.

Reports suggest that a rifle with ammunition had gone missing two days prior to the incident, raising the possibility that personnel involved in the camp might be behind the shooting. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was reportedly briefed on the incident by the Army Chief, General Manoj Pandey.
