PTC News Desk: Authorities have revealed that a cake, believed to be the cause of a 10-year-old girl's demise in Punjab, contained a high concentration of artificial sweetener, sparking concerns and investigations. The incident occurred on March 24 when the entire family fell ill after consuming a chocolate cake ordered online from a bakery in Patiala to celebrate the girl's birthday.

According to District Health Officer Dr. Vijay Jindal, a sample of the cake was collected for analysis, which unveiled a significant presence of saccharine, a synthetic compound renowned for its sweet taste. While saccharine is commonly used in food and beverages in small quantities, elevated levels can lead to rapid spikes in blood glucose levels, posing health risks.

Authorities have initiated legal action against the bakery, with a fine likely to be imposed. A First Information Report (FIR) has already been lodged against the bakery's owner.

A widely circulated video on social media captured moments of celebration as the girl, identified as Manvi, joyfully cut the cake with her family shortly before her untimely demise.

Hours after the celebratory event, the entire family, including Manvi's younger sister, fell ill, experiencing symptoms such as vomiting and dryness of the mouth. Manvi tragically passed out and was rushed to the hospital, where despite efforts to stabilise her with oxygen, she succumbed to the effects of the poisoning.

The grieving family has alleged that the chocolate cake procured from 'Cake Kanha' contained poisonous substances, prompting investigations and calls for stricter regulations to ensure food safety standards.
