Constitution Day 2023: Constitution Day, observed on November 26, commemorates the pivotal moment in India's history when the nation adopted its constitution in 1949. This day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, carries profound significance, marking the 132nd birth anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the revered chairman of the Constituent Assembly's drafting committee and a key architect of the Constitution.

Previously recognised as Law Day, the Indian government transformed this occasion into Constitution Day in 2015, emphasizing the document's foundational role in the country's governance. The formal enforcement of the Constitution occurred on January 26, 1950.

Dr. BR Ambedkar, renowned for his advocacy for the marginalized sections of society, led the committee responsible for finalizing the Indian Constitution. The meticulous drafting process spanned over 2 years, 11 months, and 17 days, culminating in the formulation of this seminal document.

To honor BR Ambedkar's legacy, a statue of the iconic figure will be unveiled on the premises of the Supreme Court. Scheduled for inauguration at 10:30 am by President Droupadi Murmu, the event will be broadcast live. Throughout the country, from bustling cities to remote villages, statues of BR Ambedkar stand as powerful symbols, urging progress and unity among the populace.

The installation of Ambedkar's statue at the Supreme Court premises stems from an initiative led by Chief Justice Chandrachud. Described as a 7-foot-tall depiction of BR Ambedkar dressed in lawyer's attire, the statue prominently features a representation of the Constitution in his hand, symbolizing the enduring significance and authority of this guiding legal document.
