iPhone 17 Pro Max in cosmic orange sold out within three days of pre-orders in US and India
PTC Web Desk: Apple’s newly launched iPhone 17 Pro Max in Cosmic Orange has witnessed overwhelming demand, going out of stock within just three days of pre-orders opening, according to company staff. The devices, available for store pick-up in both the US and India, sold out faster than anticipated.
In India, the entire iPhone 17 Pro Max series is currently unavailable for in-store pick-up, as confirmed by Apple’s official website. Notably, the Cosmic Orange variant was not listed for store pick-up in either the iPhone 17 Pro Max or the iPhone 17 Pro models.
“I am really sorry to inform you, but due to the large number of pre-orders, all the Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro Max are being sold very fast, due to which they are not available in any storage variant,” an Apple specialist said. The specialist added that the Deep Blue colour option is still available at some outlets.
Apple has assured customers that efforts are being made to restock the Cosmic Orange variant soon, though no specific timeline has been shared.
The iPhone 17 series, priced between Rs 82,900 and Rs 2,29,900 in India and between USD 799 (Rs 70,370) and USD 1,999 (Rs 1.76 lakh) in the US, will officially be available from September 19 for those who pre-booked. Select Apple stores in India are also expected to carry a limited number of devices on launch day, which will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
Consumers can still place orders for the “out of stock” devices, but deliveries are expected only after October 7.
On the production front, Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn, Apple’s largest manufacturing partner, has started assembling the iPhone 17 series at its Bengaluru unit. However, most of the devices manufactured in India are being shipped to meet demand in the US market.
According to industry estimates, Apple plans to increase iPhone production to 60 million units in 2025, up from 35–40 million in the previous year. In FY25, Apple assembled 60% more iPhones in India, valued at around USD 22 billion.
While Apple’s India supplies rose 21.5% year-on-year in the first half of 2025—reaching 5.9 million units—the iPhone 16 series remained the top-shipped model. In the June 2025 quarter alone, Apple’s shipments in India grew 19.7% year-on-year, capturing 7.5% market share.
Despite the growth, Apple continues to face informal restrictions from China on the supply of capital goods and skilled manpower, which could impact its plans to expand manufacturing in India.
