Russia-Ukraine war: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that if "negotiations" with Russia's President Vladimir Putin fail then "that would mean that this is a third World War." "I'm ready for negotiations with him. I was ready for the last two years. And I think that without negotiations we cannot end this war," said Zelenskyy, according to CNN. He went on to say "I think that we have to use any format, any chance in order to have a possibility of negotiating, the possibility of talking to Putin. World War III The humanitarian situation in Mariupol, Ukraine's south-eastern city, has deteriorated further, with thousands of civilians killed in the city since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. The Russian defence ministry, however, has repeatedly accused the Ukrainian armed forces' Azov battalion of significant human rights violations. The Azov battalion is believed to be made up of "neo-Nazi" Ukrainian nationalists. "There is a terrible humanitarian catastrophe in Mariupol as a result of the lawlessness brought about by Ukrainian nationalists. Desperate and mindless bandits, realizing the impossibility of receiving any assistance from Kyiv, terrorize those neighbourhoods of the city that are still under their control," said Mikhail Mizintsev, the head of the Russian National Defense Control Center. "It has been established that from 80 to 235 innocent citizens die every day at the hands of the Nazis, this is a terrible statistic for the last three days only. These are the people that are trying to leave the city on their own, the militants simply shoot them," Mizintsev claimed. According to the Russian official, over 130,000 civilians are being held hostage by Ukrainian nationalists in Mariupol. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian government has accused Russia of hitting civilian areas in the country, including a theatre and an art school. Russian soldiers "purposefully and cynically destroyed the Drama Theater in the heart of Mariupol," according to the Mariupol City Council, which shared an image of the destroyed theatre building. World War III On the other hand, thousands of Mariupol civilians who managed to flee Russian bombs are starving to death in occupied Manhushi and Melekin. On Sunday, Pavlo Kyrylenko, the head of the Donetsk Military-Civil Administration, alleged that the Russian occupying forces are refusing to give food, water, and safe passage. Furthermore, as many as 2,500 civilians have died in Mariupol, Ukrainian officials estimate. Hundreds of thousands of people are trapped in the city without electricity, water and heat. The international community has been placing enormous pressure on Russia to end its military operations in Ukraine, which have resulted in a massive humanitarian crisis, with thousands of Ukrainian refugees fleeing to neighbouring nations to the west.
