Reeling under a debt of Rs 6 lakh, a farmer allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his room at Udat Bhagatram village near Mansa on Thursday.

The family took him to the Civil Hospital in Mansa, but he was declared brought dead by the doctors.

The deceased has been identified as Basant Singh (42) . He had four acres of land. He is survived by his wife and a children – aged fifteen years.
The police said the deceased’s family said, his brother was upset for the past few days due to debt.
