Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2022: Police have filed an FIR against Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Akhilesh Yadav, Rashtriya Lok Dal president Jayant Chaudhary and around 400 others for allegedly violating Covid-19 protocols during campaigning for upcoming assembly elections in Dadri on Thursday. The case has also been lodged against party's Dadri candidate Rajkumar Bhati and Gautam Buddh Nagar chief Indra Pradhan among others. "A case filed against SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary, SP's Dadri candidate Rajkumar Bhati, SP's Gautam Buddh Nagar chief Indra Pradhan, and 300-400 others, for violating Covid-19 and Election Commission of India's (ECI) guidelines during a campaign in Dadri on February 3," informed the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police. In Uttar Pradesh, voting will take place in seven rounds on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27, and March 3 and 7. The results of the election will be announced on March 10. The SP and RLD are contesting together in Uttar Pradesh's Assembly election against the ruling BJP and other parties. Also Read | R-Day Parade 2022: Tableau of this ministry won in Central ministries/departments category Notably, after reviewing the Covid-19 situation in five poll-bound states of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur, ECI has extended the restriction on large political gatherings until February 11. Meanwhile, with the first phase of the seven-phase assembly elections in five states from February 10, the poll body has allowed physical public meetings with a maximum capacity of 1000 people. Furthermore, ahead of assembly elections in Punjab and other four states, the election commission has banned roadshows, Pad-yatras, cycle/bike/vehicle rallies and processions till February 11, 2022. As per the latest decision by ECI, the limit for door to door campaigns has been enhanced. Now, instead of 10, 20 persons excluding security personnel, will be allowed for door to door campaigns. The Election Commission has asked the political parties and candidates to adhere to Covid-appropriate behaviour and guidelines, as well as the Model Code of Conduct, at all times during election-related activities.
