Congress candidate Hardev Singh Laddi misbehaves with media after casting vote on Monday morning. As the media persons asked him questions, he became aggressive and allegedly pushed the mic away. The pressure is surely rising as the Shahkot elections will be a major test for Congress in Punjab. Sherowalia, is contesting for second time in a row. He had unsuccessfully contested 2017 Assembly elections and lost to Shiromani Akali Dal’s (SAD) Ajit Singh Kohar who passed away in February vacating the seat. The three major political parties — Congress, Akali Dal and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) — have went all out for the high-stakes bypoll necessitated following the death of Akali MLA Ajit Singh Kohar in February this year. The bypoll is also being seen as a popularity test of the 14-month-old Congress government in the state. The Captain Amarinder Singh-led government has been facing criticism from the opposition for not fulfilling promises made to the voters in the run-up to the 2017 assembly elections. The seat has been vacant since Kohar, 78, died of cardiac arrest on February 4.
