Taliban's latest ban: Afghan women barred from hearing each other's voice while praying
PTC News Desk: The Taliban regime has issued new directive against women that further restricts the freedom of women. Women in Afghanistan are no longer allowed to hear each other's voice even during prayers. Taliban has prohibited women from praying aloud in the presence of each other.
While dictating the order, Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, Taliban minister for the propagation of virtue and the prevention of vice justified the restrictions citing that a woman's voice is considered "awrah" - something that must be concealed - and should not be heard in public, even by other women. He also highlighted that if women are prohibited to call Takbir or Azan - the Islamic call to prayer - they certainly cannot engage in singing or enjoying music.
This directive if one of the many orders that have been issued by Taliban regime putting women under a series of oppressive measures. The new decree imposing restrictions have highlighted grave concerns amongst the experts that it would certainly hinder women's ability to speak freely throwing them into unwarranted private life.
Female healthcare workers who are allowed to work outside are further barred from talking publicly especially with their males. It is however not yet clear that whether the new directive has come into effect or not.
